Day 1 in Alaska!

Today was my travel day. I flew out of O’Hare in the morning and landed in Anchorage at 11:50 a.m. My flight was direct and lasted around seven hours. Everyone else from the FotoProMedia group had already arrived, so they picked me up from the airport. From there, we headed to Round Table Pizza for lunch before leaving Anchorage and starting down the Seward Highway.

We stopped a few times along the highway at some of the same places we visited during the winter trip. One of the best stops happened because there were mountain goats along the highway! I never got to see any mountain goats during the winter trip, not even at the zoo, so seeing them up in the mountains was awesome. We all piled out of the van to take photos of them before continuing down the road.

We made a few more scenic stops before finally arriving in Seward and unpacking at our Airbnb. After getting settled in, we headed into town for dinner at a seafood restaurant. Dinner ended up taking almost two hours between waiting for food and eating. The overall consensus was that it was just okay, but the sourdough bread was definitely the highlight.

After dinner, we stopped at the grocery store to pick up more meat and dairy products that hadn’t been purchased before I arrived. Everyone also grabbed snacks for the week. We finally made it back to the Airbnb around 9:30 p.m., which felt more like 12:30 a.m. back home, so we were all pretty exhausted. I got my photos uploaded and started editing for a little while before finally calling it a night.
