Day 3 in Alaska
We had an easy morning today. Everyone slowly made their way down to the kitchen around 9:30, and we spent the morning editing photos and talking about the past few days. It started off as a pretty relaxed, lazy morning while everyone got ready to head into town. We finally left for Seward around 11:30.
Once we got into town, we stopped at a small group of food trucks for lunch. I got carnitas nachos before we started making our way down the main street of Seward. Everyone split off into smaller groups for the afternoon, and Anna and I teamed up together while the others did their own exploring.
At one point, William and Nick started talking with the crew aboard a NOAA research ship docked in the harbor. The crew told us they would love to give us a tour, but it had to happen right then, so everyone quickly made their way back to the boat. We got to hear from the first mate and a tech crew member about the ship, the kind of research they do, and the instruments they use while out at sea. It was a really cool opportunity and something none of us were expecting.
After the tour, we split back into our smaller groups again. Anna and I wandered through a lot of the souvenir shops downtown and probably bought more than we should have. We spent most of the afternoon walking up and down the downtown area before eventually making our way toward the waterfront to sit and relax by the water for a while. After that, we met back up with the rest of the group to head back to the Airbnb.
For dinner, Anna and I made walking tacos while everyone continued editing photos for the evening. Some nostalgic movies were playing in the living room too, Brave and Mulan were a few of the favorites. Later that night, Anna, Nick, William, and I went on a walk down the road to get some fresh air, take photos, and maybe, or maybe not, hope to see a bear. We never did spot one, but Anna and I had a lot of fun experimenting with long exposure and sunset photography. We stayed up past midnight talking with everyone and getting ready for bed. The sun still being up around 11 p.m. continues to feel so strange.
