Day 7 in Alaska!
Today is our last day as a full group, which is so sad. We’ve all had a great time, and I am not ready for it to end. We hung out at the house until we left to go to the Ulu factory. Five of us from our group and Steven (William’s brother) went to the factory.
The Ulu factory had been on my “go here” list from the beginning of planning this trip. An ulu is a native curved knife. I bought one and a rounded cutting board, as well as some other goodies.
We went to Wee B’s again for lunch. I got a buffalo burger. It was very good—I think it was better than a ground beef burger. It was tasty, and I shared the huge fry with Kris.
After lunch, we went to the Anchorage Zoo. I love zoos, and I always try to visit them in any town I travel to. This zoo was very cool to see. It wasn’t your typical zoo with all types of animals. It was an Alaska-based zoo with animals you can find in Alaska or the Northern Hemisphere.
We took lots of photos; the wolves and the owls were some of my top photo spots. The girls and I got some fun photos while we were there. We also watched the wolverines wrestle and run around with a giant bone for a while. Unfortunately, the mountain goats weren’t out and about, so I didn’t get to see any of them.
William took us up into the mountains toward Flattop Mountain. We weren’t wanting to make the 45-minute climb up the mountain, so we just went up to the overlook. We could see all of the city of Anchorage. We could see all the way to Mount McKinley and all of the mountains surrounding the city.
We stopped for a few things and groceries at Fred Meyer, a Kroger spin-off. The girls and I secretly picked out some cards as a thank you for William. I wrote him a thank-you note for everything and for being an amazing guide. His stories were some of my favorite parts of the trip.
William cooked a pasta and chicken dish with a creamy lemon garlic sauce that I found, and it was very, very tasty. We got him to shake on it that next time we all come up together, he will make us a steak dinner. William is a very good cook, and I’m excited for when we get to do that.
We have had so much fun and loved every minute of our time here. These girls are also going to be some of my forever friends. We get along so well, like all the same things, and I’m so glad I met them and have this forever connection. Anna’s flight is at 1 AM tonight, so Nick and William took her to the airport around 10:50 PM.
Kris and I stayed at the house while she finished editing her photos. It was so sad to see Anna have to leave, and I don’t want to have to leave tomorrow night. Kris and I finished up packing after they left. We had so much fun, and we are excited for when we get back to school and can hang out together again.
