Day 5 in Alaska!
Today we started out again right around 9 AM. Kris and I were starting to get our layers organized for the day when all of a sudden Nick came into the doorway and said, “Girls, look out your window right now.” We had a young moose in our backyard. For context, we are in the middle of a neighborhood, and we had a three-year-old moose walking around the backyard looking for trees to eat.
We took photos from the upstairs porch before running downstairs to get my longer lens and sneaking out the back porch sliding door to get some closer-up photos of this young moose exploring our yard. It was a huge high to the morning, and the moose walked right across the back deck about four feet from us. It was awesome! She was very pretty, and I got some new favorite photos of her.
We left the house and said watch out for the moose because she had walked down the road. Right when we said that we saw a young bull moose that still had his antlers. We drove closer to him and took photos of both the young female that walked around our house and down the street, and the young 5 year old bull moose.
From there, we headed out to Earthquake Park because it was our first clear-sky day while we’ve been here. William explained which mountains were which in the distance. It was cool to see, especially knowing some of those mountains are 200-plus miles away. We got some fun photos of the land and mountains around the airport.
After this, we headed north for our tour of the reindeer farm. It was about an hour drive. When we got there, we were pretty early, so we got to walk through the reptile room by ourselves. By saying that, I’m guessing you can tell it isn’t a normal reindeer farm. This farm was definitely for tourists.
It was still very cool. It had reindeer, of course, as well as buffalo, Highland cattle, yak, moose, alpacas, llamas, pigs, and reptiles. They had a few other little things around too. We got to pet, feed, and take pictures with the reindeer. I got to kiss her on the nose, which was a highlight for me. I made friends with the cows, and we all took fun photos. I took some fun photos of the reptiles while I was there too.
On the way back, we got some good photos of the sunset. We went to The Peanut Farm for dinner tonight, which is one of the oldest restaurants and a for-sure stop for people visiting Anchorage. It was pretty good. I got pizza again, and the girls got burgers.
We headed back to the house, and we were all pretty tired by this point from the long day. I started getting my photos backed up and uploaded to Lightroom, we all had some hot tea, and the girls and I played Uno once again. I actually won a few rounds this time. I mirrored my computer screen to the TV, and we went through all my photos as I edited and saved them.
Seeing the reindeer and being that close to them was a big highlight of my day, but seeing a moose in my backyard was also crazy. Today was a full fun day and it did not disappoint. But then again, there has not been a single day so far that has. I loved the reindeer and taking photos with them was so fun. We have more fun things to come!
